High amniotic fluid, called polyhydramnios, means there is more fluid around your baby than expected. It is often mild and monitored with scans. Sometimes it is linked to gestational diabetes or how the baby swallows fluid.
Causes and monitoring
- Often no clear cause; sometimes linked to gestational diabetes or the baby's swallowing.
- Monitored with ultrasound; your doctor may check your blood sugar.
When it needs attention
Report a rapidly growing bump, breathlessness, or sudden severe tummy tightness. Extra fluid can raise the chance of preterm labour or malposition, so monitoring matters.
