Yes — count its caffeine, and mind iron absorptionEvidence-based & doctor-reviewed

Yes, in moderation. Regular and green tea contain caffeine, so include them in your roughly 200 mg daily caffeine limit. Some herbal teas are not recommended in large amounts, so check before drinking a lot.

Caffeine in tea

A cup of tea has around 75 mg of caffeine (green tea a little less). Keep your total from all drinks under about 200 mg a day.

Herbal teas — check first

Not all herbal teas are proven safe in pregnancy. Ginger and peppermint in normal amounts are generally fine (ginger can help nausea), but avoid large amounts of unfamiliar herbal blends and check with your doctor.

Tea and iron

Tannins in tea can reduce iron absorption. Avoid drinking tea with or just after iron-rich meals or supplements.
