More monitoring, more nutrition, and often earlier birthEvidence-based & doctor-reviewed
Carrying twins (or more) is exciting and needs extra care. You will have more frequent monitoring and scans, higher nutritional needs, and a greater chance of an earlier birth. Most twin pregnancies do well with good antenatal care.
What is different
- More antenatal visits and scans to track growth.
- Higher needs for iron, folic acid and calories.
- Higher chance of anaemia, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes and preterm birth.
Staying well
Attend all appointments, eat well, rest, and report warning signs promptly. Your team will plan the safest timing and mode of birth.
Frequently asked questions
Are twin pregnancies high-risk?
They need closer monitoring, but many go well with good antenatal care.
Will I deliver early?
Twins often arrive earlier than single babies; your team will plan for it.
Do I need to eat more?
Yes — twins raise your needs for calories and nutrients like iron and folic acid.
