Most fruits are safe and encouraged — they provide vitamins, fibre and hydration. Wash them well before eating. There is no need to avoid common fruits like apple, banana, orange, guava, pomegranate or berries.

Great fruit choices

Wash them well

Rinse fruit thoroughly and avoid pre-cut fruit that has been left out, to lower the risk of infections like toxoplasmosis and from pesticide residue.

What about mango, papaya and pineapple?

These are surrounded by myths. In short: ripe mango and pineapple are fine in moderation; unripe papaya is best avoided. See the dedicated articles for details.
