Labour length varies widely. First labours often last around 12–18 hours or more, while later labours are usually shorter. Every birth is different, and your team monitors your progress throughout.
The stages
- First stage (the longest) — the cervix opens to 10 cm.

- Third stage — delivery of the placenta.
